Welcome to the new website of the Gold Discovery Park Association...

Look around and check out all the new features. Even though it is a work in progress, this website offers updates of announcements, activities, and events as they are available. The Online Mercantile is closed right now, but, it will open for business as soon as appropriate products are identified and posted to the store site. The goal is to improve timely communication to our members, volunteers, and other visitors interested in GDPA's activities. Information will be added regularly, so check back often. Use the Contact Us page and send GDPA an email to let us know what you think.

Evening Events Coming this Summer

E-mail Print PDF
Come to the park this summer and enjoy four interpretative performances of some colorful people from the gold rush era. Events will be the 3rd Saturday of May, June, July, and August, with a special event in September. Over the summer you will meet Fremont, Sutter, Brannan, and Marshall. You will hear fascinating life stories from the Native American point of view and from some of the folks buried in Coloma's cemeteries. For full details, CLICK HERE.

Free Publicity

E-mail Print PDF

Last week Linda J. Bottjer,  a writer for the Examiner.com site, visited our park and wrote an article about day trips from Sacramento. Click on the link below to view the article. She gets paid by the page view and the number of subscribers. So, she would like as many people as possible to visit the site and subscribe to her column by clicking on the box next to her photo. The article is entertaining and free publicity for us, so check it out whether you want to subscribe to her email or not.

Special Thanks to Ed Allen as James Marshall for giving her the tour and information she needed.

Raley's Quality of Life Card

E-mail Print PDF

QCardPick up a Raley's Quality of Life Card (Q Card) at the mercantile and each time you buy something at Raley's, Bellair, or Nobhill present your card at checkout. A percentage of your purchase will be donated to GDPA. The card must be activated online by going to www.raleys.com or www.nobhill.com and clicking on the About Us link. Click on the Quality of Life link and register.

The Quality of Life Card is different than other scrip programs. For example, some retailers subtract 15% for administrative fees, but Raley's absorbs all those costs so your full contribution goes to support the park. What's more, there are no product exclusions. All of your purchases except non-merchandise items (lottery tickets, money orders, sales tax, etc.) generate money for our park programs.

Contributions are calculated on a graduated scale based on customer's monthly qualifying purchases:

Tiered Contribution Structure:
1% on monthly purchases up to $300
2% on monthly purchases between $300 to $500
3% on monthly purchases between $500 to $600
4% on monthly purchases over $600

Advocacy Day

John Clagett, Cynthia Allen, Dave Allen, Judi BowersVolunteers from Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma and the Gold Discovery Park Association in conjunction with California State Parks Foundation met recently with California State legislators regarding the needs of California state parks.  The concerns that we expressed to the legislators revolved around: 1) state parks being considered as “fair game” for development proposals for infrastructure and for private business enterprises, 2) the current bond freeze which hampers state parks projects in progress and development of new projects, and 3) state parks which serve as economic engines for many local economies.  For every $1 invested into State parks more than $2 is returned to the State government and our local communities in revenues and taxes.

Marshall Gold Discovery SHP is affected by all 3 of these concerns.  We encouraged the legislators to support Senate Bills 372, 679, 553, 555 and Assembly Bill 1364. We thanked those legislators who are committed to the need of citizenry usage of historic and recreational parks.

The Gold Discovery Park Association is actively involved in the support of our parks and the important effect they have on surrounding communities.
