Mission Statement
The Gold Discovery Park Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the interpretation and conservation of
Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park.
Morning comes gently in Coloma. Mist rises from the South Fork American River and mingles with the smoky haze drifting from the Blacksmith's Shop. James Marshall (a modern version!) strides toward the sawmill; a woman in long skirt, shawl, and bonnet hums to herself whilst she scrubs laundry in a metal tub. Inside the historic schoolhouse, children dip pen nibs in inkwells and begin writing practice. A fiddler tunes up on the front step of the store.
This is Coloma, where a remarkable 1848 gold discovery continues to shimmer. Visit Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park and catch the glow!
The Gold Discovery Park Association is proud to serve as the "cooperating association" of the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park.
In this role, the GDPA supports a variety of programs for children and adults—as well as projects that help preserve historic buildings and maintain park facilities—all revenue generated by the Gold Discovery Park Association stays right here at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park—enabling us to have a direct impact on the quality of programs and opportunities for our visitors.
